Mayor’s Workplace Awards
Apply for this year’s workplace recognition programs
As an extension of the Mayor’s Health & Well-Being Council (MHWC) Workplace Partner Certification, the Mayor’s Workplace Awards recognize Austin/Travis County’s top organizations that excel at creating a culture of health and well-being. Current MHWC Certified Partners (or organizations seeking MHWC Partner Certification) are eligible to apply for the Mayor’s Workplace Awards.
There is only one application for the Mayor’s Workplace Awards, which is used to determine winners for the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplace and the Moving the Needle Awards. See below for award categories and how to apply.

Award Categories –
Mayor’s Healthiest Workplaces
Awards recognize organizations that implement employee engagement programs that support employee health and well-being. Winners are determined based on the total points earned from the MHWC Workplace Partner Certification application and the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplace & Moving the Needle Awards application. This award has two subcategories:
- organizational size (Up to 250 employees, 251 – 1,000 employees, 1,001 – 5,000 employees, Over 5,000 employees)
- school district/government organization.
To apply, organizations must complete the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplace & Moving the Needle Awards application. To be considered for the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplace Awards, applicants must submit responses in 5 out of the 6 pillars of wellness listed within the application. Subcategories may vary based on applicants and determined by the ABGOH Review and Steering Committee.
Moving the Needle Award
The Moving the Needle Award honors workplaces that have implemented and supported an outstanding employee health initiatives aligned with the MHFC Pillars of Wellness:
- Tobacco-Free Living
- Physical Activity
- Nutrition
- Health Education/Preventive Services.
Additional award categories, such as Emotional/Mental Well-being, Innovation, Community Engagement, Social Connectedness, Champion Network may be determined annually by the ABGOH Review and Steering Committee. To be considered for the Moving the Needle Awards, applicants can submit in 1 or more pillars of wellness listed within the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplace & Moving the Needle Awards application.
Can I apply for MHWC Workplace Partner Certification and the Mayor’s Workplace Awards at the same time?
Yes – organizations that are seeking MHWC Workplace Partner Certification and participating in the Mayor’s Workplace Awards can apply for both programs by submitting the combined online application found on this page. Please note the MHWC Workplace Partner Certification application supporting documentation requirements found on the Get Certified page; applications are not considered completed until supporting documentation is submitted.
What is the application deadline?
To be considered for the 2024 Mayor’s Health and Well-Being Awards, applications are due by close of business on July 31, 2024. Starting in 2022, partnering and recognition programming for workplaces will be celebrated on a biennium. Applications received after this date will be considered for the 2026 awards.

When will awards be given out?
Awards will be given out at the Mayor’s Health & Well-Being Awards Ceremony held each September during Texas Obesity Awareness Week.
